The  90 minutes of action-adventure pilot “Alphas” has been on a  two year quest for a TVnetwork.

“Alpha,” which follows a team of people who have neurological hyperdeveloped capacities, native writers Zak Penn ( “X-Men: The Last Stand”) and Michael Karnow and BermanBraun Television.

In its first incarnation as “Section 8″, the drama was made by NBC BermanBraun of the first look deal there. After the network, the project provoked heated bidding among the other broadcast networks in summer 2007, landing at ABC with a production of six episodes for a possible midseason launch behind “Lost.”

The show was in preproduction, with writing in the first episode in progress, when the WGA strike brought work to a standstill.

After the strike, ABC’s plans for “Section 8″ had to be altered. And creative differences on the show elements of science fiction, with which ABC is said to have been uncomfortable, leading to the departure of the network project.

Meanwhile, brass Syfy was looking to get into business with Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, who suggested”Section 8″.

“What I loved about this idea is that was played in a new way of tackling the superhero genre: the idea of people having a common feature something special about them and are not particularlyvery special but together can make amazing things is very attractive, “Syfy Executive VP of original programming Mark Stern said.

“Section 8″, now “Alphas,” has gone through some redevelopment in Syfy and Universal Cable Prods. and was one of three projects for the pilot network of collection. Ultimately, it was with “Alphas”, bringing the project, which originated with NBC Uni, the circle.

ABC Studios, which produced “Section 8″, while it was on ABC, has a small ownership stake.

“We are delighted this has been maintained on the NBC Universal family,” said Braun. “Being in Syfy allows Michael Zak and really out of their gloves and explore this area isn’t required.”
