She is the daughter of the late Robert Kardashian, one of lawyers in O.J. Simpson’s dream team and the stepdaughter of Olympic Gold Medalist Bruce Jenner. She is also part of the growing number of celebutantes with reality TV show. She is the star of E! Entertainment’s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which features her, her sisters, her mom and her stepdad. Like Paris, Kim longed for fame but became infamous for a sex tape with former boyfriend, R&B singer Ray J. After the “mysterious” release of the video, she became the latest “it” girl of those famous for being famous. Although she, like the rest of her brood, lacks any real substance, Kim Kardashian stands out among her blonde or nearly blonde counterparts.

Unlike Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, Kim’s exotic look sets her apart from the crowd. Thanks to her Armenian heritage, she’s a dark-haired, olive-toned beauty, the antithesis of the California clones. In addition to her dark beauty, she’s famous for her most notable assets, her curvy figure and her butt. She stands out among the waif-thin starlets in Hollywood. She actually looks like she eats a meal every now and then and has a confident, healthy glow. Like other curvy stars, such as Jennifer Lopez and Sara Ramirez, she doesn’t hide her full figure but wears clothing that accentuates her body.

Recently, US Weekly published a picture of Kim relaxingat the beach in a bikini that flaunted her curves. Her beauty reminded me of some of the pin-up girls of the 40s and 50s, particularly Jane Russell and Sophia Loren. Their fuller figures made them look like real women, not prepubescent girls and boys. Like these women, Kim belongs in another era, when people appreciated a healthy body. Hopefully, she won’t be tempted to shrink to nothing like a number of formerly curvy actresses have.

Even though her fame hinges on her connections, it is commendable that Hollywood has not ignored her beauty. She can become a role model for girls who are depressed because they cannot look like Paris or Nicole. She illustrates that you don’t have to be blonde to be beautiful and you do not have to look like a stick figure to be acceptable. As a curvy woman myself, it’s nice to see a Littlevariety among the sameness, most of which is manufactured, on the TV screen and actually see a uniqueperson. Maybe she will be the beginning of a new standard of what makes a star in Hollywood and break the mold of California clones that exists.
