Hawaii, Known as the islands of Aloha, is home to many actors, actress’, political figures and many other famous people.

Bette Midler, American Actress and singer, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in December 1945. Midler Majored in Drama at the University of Hawaii. Her first professional on stage role in Tom Eyen’s off-off Broadway plays “Miss Nefertiti regrets” and “Cinderella revisited “in 1965. Midler’s debut on film came in 1966 when she was an extra in “Hawaii”. From 1966 through 1969 Midler had the role of “Tzeitel” in the “Fiddler on the roof “On Broadway. In 1970 she began singing in the continental baths a gay bathhouse in the city became close to Pianist Barry Main low that produced her first major album “The Divine Mirsm” (1973). 1974 she won a Tony award for “Claims on the half shell revue” and won an academy award for best actress for “The Rose”. Later in 1985 she signed with Touchstone Pictures this gave her work on films like “Down and out in Beverly Hills ” , “Oliver & Company”, “Hocus Pocus”, “The first wives club” and “The Step ford Wives” . During her career she has earned four Grammy’s, 1973 Best New Artist, 1989 Record of the year, two hits in “100 years of the greatest songs”. Currently Bette Midler is starring in “Bette Midler: The showgirl must go on” in Vegas.

Honolulu, Hawaii, home to actress Nicole Kidman whom was born in June of 1967. Kidman’s First appearance in film was when she was just fifteen years old; she appeared in Pat Wilson’s video of “Bop Girl” in 1983. Her first TV appearance was her supporting role in “Five mile creek”. In the 1980’s Kidman appeared in several Australian films and TV series. It was not until 1989 that she received her breakthrough film when she appeared in “Dead Calm”. Then from 1990-1992 she appeared in two films alongside Tom Cruise, her future husband, “Days of Thunder” and “Far away”. Kidman gained critical success in 1995 for “To Die for” where she also won a golden globe award. Later on from 1998-1999 she appeared in two more films that gained her even more success, “Practical Magic” Alongside Sandra Bullock and “Eyes Wide Shut” Alongside Tom Cruise. In 2002 Kidman received her second Golden Globe Award for her work in “Moulin Rouge”. Kidman also appeared in box office hits “The Others”, “The Panic room”, “The Step ford wives”, and “Bewitched”. Kidman became the face of Channel no.5 perfume featured in ads all around the world. She was named the 45th most powerful celebrity, 2005 Forbes celebrity 100 lists and People’s highest paid actress in 2005. Nicole Kidman is currently working on three films but has never forgotten her roots in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Barack Obama whom is also from Honolulu, Hawaii was born in 1961. He is known to us as our 2008 presidential candidate running currently against John McCain. But in his early years Obama attended Punahou School where he graduated in 1979. Following High School he moved to Los Angeles and studied at Occidental College for two years later transferring to Columbia University .He majored in political science with a specialization in international relations, he later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1983. Five year later he attended Harvard Law School. Obama has much recognition including writing two books, teaching constitutional law in Chicago andSay legislator from 1997-2004. Obama is now currently running for President of the United States.
