When I was in school back in the early 90’s, there were four Sarah’s in my class, two James’s and one Jamie. I thought it was incredibly boring that parents could not think of a more original name for their child so I decided when I had my own children, I would name them something interesting.
My first daughter was named Jacinta, a Spanish name meaning ‘Hyacinth flower’. I first heard the name when I worked with a journalist in classifieds who had the name, and I thought it was perfect.
My daughter is part-Greek and has the olive skin and dark hair, so it really suited her.
My other children were named Jerrica, Lucia, Alicia and Yanny (the Greek version of John).
Thankfully these days famous celebrities are naming their kids with innovative names so this generation of parents are following suit.
