Should under weight models be banned from runway fashion shows? The answer is no, not necessarily. However if you were to restate the question as; Should a model who suffers from anorexia, bulimia, or another eating disorder be banned then the answer is a clear and resolute yes.
A model being under weight could mean anything, perhaps the model as been so busy with things that she has simply neglected certain things. True it is very unhealthy to miss meals, but in today and age we all do it . A ban would be far too harsh for a minor weight problem. Rather then outright ban the model a investigation as to the reason of her weight would make a bettersolution. If it had been; Should models who are significantly underweight, despite warnings and signs of unhealthy conditions be banned from the runway, then the answer again, would be a definite yes.
Models are under a lot of pressure to look good which would be the reason many of them resort to bulimia and anorexia. After all it is their livelihood they’re trying to protect. It is easy for the rest of us to over work and therefore it only makes since that it would also be simple for models to try aTiny too hard to stick to a diet or keep a thin waist line. A warning may be all that’s needed to help some underweight models make adjustments to there lifestyle. Since when is being skinny a crime anyway, plenty of non models are underweight without having eating disorders or health problems.
I think that the real concern many people have with underweight models is the pressure felt by young women, (especially kids and teens),This day to be perfectTiny tea cups. Well it is time people faced facts. Not everyone can look like the models, and the models are just making a living. I have never heard of a model saying “Please women round the world starve yourselves, then you will be pretty too.” It is the people who aren’t satisfied with proper models that are encouraging this mentality. The people that won’t give a normal girl a second look but let their tongues loose to the wind when the see those underweight models up on stage are simply showing their sons daughters a standard of behavior. It is their life and it isn’t necessarily wrong for them to do so, but when the finger needs pointing the models are should not be the target.
So really, instead of banning underweight models from the runway, maybe it is time the public stopped their demand for this kind of women. If there was no desire for them, then they wouldn’t think they needed to lose the weight. It is the simple law of supply and demand. People have to look in side and decide what the real problem is. A great man once stated treat the disease not the symptoms. It is up to the people to fight the disease, and not be so typical as to stare at any girl with a size zero waist. It’s up to usto repair society, because no one is going to wave a magic wand and make everything right.
