Although this was written as a gospel song, the truth remains the same for all, regardless of one’s spiritual beliefs; Even though life has trials and troubles, when we finally overcome those trials and reach the end of our journey (or is it a new beginning?); When we reach the top of the mountain and look back into the valley, we’ll know the trip has been worth it!
The View From The Mountain
Lord, I’m standing in the valley of the shadow of death,
And I’m feeling the fear of the dark.
Lord, I feel the oppression as it takes my breath,
And tightens the chains on my heart.
But I see in the distance, a small light is shining,
I can’t reach it, but I know it’s there.
And, my Lord, I know that the light on the mountain
Is a sure sign for me that you care.
CHORUS
In the valley, there’s darkness, in the valley despair.
But my eyes are on the mountain, Lord, you have set my sight there.
In the valley, there is shadow, in the valley, there is rain.
But the view from the mountain will be worth all the pain.
Lord, I’m standing in the pathway that You’ve laid out before me,
And I know that it’s leading me home.
And althoughI am walking in darkness so deep,
I can tell that I’m never alone.
For I see, on the mountain, that bright light is gleaming,
I can see that it’s closer each day.
And I know, in my heart, that the light on the mountain
Is a beacon to show me the way.
REPEAT CHORUS
Now as I come aTiny closer to the top of the mountain,
I can see who’s been there all along.
He is dressed all in white, and his pierced hands and side
Make my heart want to break out in song.
For it’s my Jesus who’s been waiting at the top of the mountain.
He’s been leading me home with his call, his precious call.
And when my feet finally stand where the Lord takes my hand,
I will know that it’s been worth it all.
